We are delighted to announce that construction has officially begun on Phase 2 of the Enfield Town to Ponders End Station Walking and Cycling Route. Works commenced on Monday 24 February, marking a significant step in creating a more accessible, sustainable, and people-friendly transport network in Enfield.
The project is part of Enfield Council’s Journeys and Places programme, which focuses on enhancing local streets to support active travel and improve public spaces. Following a statutory consultation held in late 2024, a decision was made to proceed with traffic order TG52/1571.
What’s Changing?
Eaton Road to Bush Hill Park
The northern section of Eaton Road, from Queen’s Road to Southbury Road, is being converted into a one-way northbound street with a new segregated cycle lane. Additional signage and road markings will enhance the unsegregated cycleway on Eaton Road (from Queen’s Road), Seaford Road, Fotheringham Road, and Cross Road. A continuous footway will be introduced at Fotheringham Road’s junction with Cross Road, alongside a new build-out at the entrance to the park. A bus gate will also be installed at the junction of Fotheringham Road and Southbury Road, supporting better public transport movement.
While the bus gate proposed for Cross Road will not be installed at this stage, we will be monitoring traffic conditions after the works are completed to assess whether it is needed in the future.
Percival Road/Bertram Road/Clive Road
To support safer and more efficient travel, Percival Road will become a one-way northbound street between Lincoln Road and Bert Way, while Bertram Road will be converted into a one-way southbound street between Clive Way and Lincoln Road. A new 20mph zone covering Percival Road, Bertram Road, Clive Road, Bert Way, and Clive Way will be introduced, reinforced by six speed humps across these roads to enhance road safety.
Road Closures and Timelines
The works are expected to continue until mid-April 2025. To facilitate construction, the following road closures will be in place:
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted to help keep traffic moving smoothly.
