A celebration in Enfield Town

The first phase of interventions delivered for the Enfield Town Liveable Neighbourhood project have been launched

It’s official! The first phase of the Enfield Town Liveable Neighbourhood project has now been launched and is open to the public.

Community members, delivery partners and local residents were joined by Will Norman, London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, along with the Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Ergin Erbil, and Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Placemaking, Cllr Sabri Ozaydin to celebrate this milestone at Saddlers Square on Saturday 25 January. James Tunnard, the local artist who worked with George Spicer Primary School to create the artwork that runs through Saddlers Square, spoke about the importance and meaning of the art you will find embedded in the ground and on the stepping stones. We also heard from local Enfield poets Mary Duggan and Christine Vial who performed poems about the local area and Saddlers Mill Stream. Guests were then welcomed at the Dugdale Centre for refreshments. Thank you to everyone who attended and made it a fantastic event.

This phase delivered a new public space in the centre of Enfield Town, Saddlers Square, at the junction of Little Park Gardens and Church Street, along with new rain gardens, new crossing point over Church Street to the Library Green and a pathway to connect Church Street to Town park through the Library Green, an upgraded crossing to Town Park, and some changes to parking and loading. The project has a focus on improving the public realm and public spaces across the Town Centre as well as making it safer and more accessible to use different transport modes when travelling to and around the Town Centre, including walking, using the bus and cycling.
