The Pavilion on The Green in Edmonton has wrapped up its first Summer Programme

As Summer draws to a close, the Pavilion on The Green in Edmonton has wrapped up its first Summer Programme.

Between 29 June to 21 September, over 60 individual events, including yoga and pilates classes, live music, community choir and dance, workshop for children and families and many others took place at the Pavilion, Edmonton’s new Culture Place.

The free events, all run by local people, attracted on over 1500 Enfield residents of all ages throughout the Summer.

The Pavilion, co-designed by the local community and the Journeys and Places team at Enfield Council with support from Fisher Cheng Architects, is one of five “culture places” being delivered by the Council in town centres across the borough to host arts, culture and community events.

Key highlights of the Summer Programme included the Untold Edmonton Festival, a two-week programme to celebrate Edmonton’s rich cultural heritage; an Interactive Concert with London Sinfonietta, Gallipoli Music Memorial Trust and DJ-MC Academy as well as activities for local young people led by Exodus, NYCC, Doodle Design and many others.

The Pavilion, designed as a demountable structure, it is expected to remain on The Green for the next three years to encourage the local community to dwell in and enjoy a local green space. As Edmonton’s new Culture Place, it will serve as a community gathering space and a platform for cultural education and expression, encouraging participation from across the local community.

The Journeys and Places team is now collaborating with local organisations in Edmonton to build on the success of the Summer Programme and to define the Pavilion’s longer-term programming and stewardship.
