Community Bike Ride – 30 April 2023

On Sunday 30 April 2023 there was a community bike ride along the A1010 Cycle Lanes from Edmonton Green to the Albany Park Wetlands and back.

The ride was led, organised, and marshalled by members from the Enfield and London Cycling Campaign, Better Streets for Enfield and supported by the Journeys and Places Team at Enfield Council. Thanks too to LIME for their support in providing free bikes for those who needed to borrow a bike.

Turn out on the day was fantastic with over 100 riders including Cllrs Ergin Erbil, Rick Jewell, Chinelo Anyanwu and Ayten Guzel. There was a mix of familiar faces and new riders plus fantastic support from local community organisations and businesses such as The Family Bike Club, Bikeworks Bike Taxi piloted by the Londra Bisiklet Kulübü and Enact Community.

Some quotes from some of the riders:

“A huge bonus for me was the cheers, smiles, waves, applause and ‘happy’ tooting of horns from local shoppers, shopkeepers, drivers and passers-by. And the folks who said ‘I want to do that!”

“Thank you for the lovely day. Been my first time, it was a great adventure for me and my daughter (she enjoyed it a lot). Hopefully see you for the next round.”

“What a fantastic community ride today. It was organised really well, and the marshalls did an amazing job. My daughter loved every minute and became more confident on the cycle lanes as the ride went on.”

To sum it up in the words of one rider – ‘As ever, the magic was in the mix of the people who came together to make the ride a special event’.
