As we moved into the implementation of the permanent design of Devonshire Square, we were faced with a problem. What to do with the amazing street furniture designed by Jan Kattein and fabricated by Bloqs, that has been activating Devonshire Square throughout its meanwhile design period? Happily, and in line with Journeys and Places commitment to sustainability and reuse, the street furniture is now installed in Hazelwood Infants School. And as you will see from the images below, being fully enjoyed and utilised in its new home!
We are also delighted to be partnering with Hazelwood School on the care and maintenance of Devonshire Square’s new greening elements. As part of the school’s Community Action Plan, Year 2 pupils will help with the planting of the new green areas towards the end of March and then work with the council’s Parks team to help care for the plants in the longer term. A great example of the community working with the council to take pride in and ownership of key spaces and facilities.
